OPCs (oligomeric proanthocyanidins) are secondary plant substances contained in skins, seeds and plant components. As OPC occurs naturally in grapes (skin and seeds), it is often described as grape skin extract or grape seed extract (Vitis vinifera) and sold in high doses as a dietary supplement. Natural OPC is also found in fruit, nuts, vegetables, seeds and flowers. It is a powerful antioxidant that protects our body from free radicals and is therefore a focal point in alternative medicine.
Effect:
Above all, OPC is very interesting due to its antioxidant effect and the natural promotion of health. They are also antiviral, antibacterial and anticarcinogenic, and anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic effects have also been reported.
The Scottsdale Clinical Research Center describes further health-promoting aspects on the body. They report positive effects on our blood cells, capillaries and the enzyme system. OPC is also frequently used for weight loss. Presumably the assumption here is aimed at the 1990s. It has been observed that the cardiovascular risk is lower in France. This was due to the increased intake of resveratrol and OPC, as these are naturally found in red wine, which is widely consumed in France.
